Kim Joo-taek, who won the Best New Actor Award at the 8th Korean Musical Awards in 2023 for his role in ‘The Phantom of the Opera,’ is set to make a stunning comeback in the musical ‘The Great Comet.’ After his successful performance in ‘The Phantom of the Opera,’ Kim Joo-taek has been cast as ‘Pierre’ in the musical ‘The Great Comet.’ He expressed his gratitude to the overwhelming support from the audience and fans and stated that he would do his best for this performance as well.
‘The Great Comet’ is an immersive musical adaptation by playwright Dave Malloy, based on Leo Tolstoy’s masterpiece ‘War and Peace.’ It received five awards, including the Producer’s Award, at the 6th Korean Musical Awards and has been highly anticipated by the audience. Kim Joo-taek’s character, ‘Pierre,’ is a servant of a Russian noble family who struggles to adapt to high society despite inheriting a vast fortune. Audiences are eagerly awaiting how Kim Joo-taek will portray ‘Pierre’ after his passionate and intense performance in the previous production.
Kim Joo-taek graduated at the top of his class from the Italia Verdi National Music Institute, specializing in vocal chamber music. He has won numerous awards in both domestic and international competitions, establishing himself as the next generation of baritones in the European classical music scene. Since his debut as ‘Figaro’ in the opera ‘The Barber of Seville’ at Teatro Regio di Parma in Italy in 2009, Kim Joo-taek has been active as a leading opera performer on world stages, including Italy, Peru, Russia, China, and Japan. He has received high praise in Europe as the “Oriental Capuchin.”
In 2017, Kim Joo-taek appeared on JTBC’s ‘Phantom Singer 2’ and formed the crossover group ‘Miracle Class,’ finishing as the runner-up. Since then, he has continued to actively participate in concerts, television appearances, and other team activities. ‘The Great Comet’ will open at the Universal Art Center on March 26th, providing audiences with a captivating musical experience.
