An Chul-soo, a member of the opposition party, criticized the conflict between President Yoon Seok-yeol and Han Dong-hoon, the emergency response committee chairman of the ruling party. An stated, “I believe that the disagreement arose from the process of trying to fix the vertical relationship within the party.” He emphasized the importance of separation of powers in a presidential democracy, stating, “Public officials have a constitutional duty to maintain political neutrality.”
Regarding reports that President Yoon demanded the resignation of Han, An criticized President Yoon for this action.
An Chul-soo expressed his concern about the handling of the Kim Geon-hee luxury bag scandal and the conflict between President Yoon Seok-yeol and Han Dong-hoon. He described it as “a matter that brings shame to the nation” and pointed out that a vertical relationship within the party violates the constitution. An previously proposed the installation of a secondary office and the appointment of a special inspector as a solution to the Kim First Lady’s case, stating that “we need to take action promptly so that residents can trust that things will be well managed in the future.” He also emphasized the need to separate the demands for a special investigation from the resolution of the case.
An Chul-soo added, “We need to express our position on the bag issue in a way that resonates with the people. The method of expressing our position should be determined by the presidential office.” He further stated, “This is a serious matter, and it is difficult to simply overlook it. I have seen many cases where not addressing such issues leads to them being reflected in the public sentiment.”
An Chul-soo predicted that if Han Dong-hoon resigns from his position as the emergency response committee chairman, “this election will become very difficult.” On the other hand, if Han continues to play the role of an opposition figure within the ruling party, An stated that the scope of cooperation between the three parties would narrow significantly, saying, “The Democratic Party will be forced to engage in a policy and vision confrontation rather than attacking the government and the ruling party.” An mentioned that during last year’s party convention, when he ran for the party leadership, he faced overt restrictions from the presidential office, which sparked controversy over presidential interference in the party. He remarked, “The current situation seems much more serious than the previous incident. The person who can be called the second-in-command of the president is the emergency response committee chairman, and there are only 78 days left until the general election. It is a very urgent and serious situation.” An emphasized the need for a swift resolution, stating, “We need to meet in person, not just communicate through the media.”
