Noh Tae-moon, the President of Samsung Electronics’ Mobile Experience (MX) division, expressed the company’s commitment to ushering in a new era of AI phones that surpass traditional smartphones. The features of the new AI phone are truly astonishing.

Changing the Game with Circle to Search

One notable feature is the “Circle to Search” function. Imagine searching for a magnificent building photo on Instagram and wanting to know its location. With the Circle to Search feature, all you need to do is long-press the home button and draw a circle around the building using your finger. Within seconds, the AI-powered search will provide you with the information, revealing that it is the “Gungi Suhyuwon Cafe” in Gyeongbuk, South Korea.

Enhancing Productivity with Galaxy AI

Users can leverage Galaxy AI as a personal assistant to boost productivity. During a demonstration, AI quickly summarized a memo titled “The Miracle of Korean Companies” and even generated a preview cover with the summary. The AI-based voice recording feature also caught the attention of attendees. With the built-in “Voice Recording” app on the S24, users can record meetings or lectures, and AI can distinguish between speakers, generate scripts, and support up to 10 participants. In a demonstration, AI accurately transcribed and summarized a scene from the drama “Stove League” depicting a director’s resignation and future plans.

Powerful Editing and Mobile Application Processor (AP)

Another key feature is the AI-based “Generative Editing” function. If a photo is cropped, AI can fill in the missing parts. Users can also move and resize subjects within the photo. Additionally, slow-motion videos can be seamlessly filled with new frames, resulting in smoother playback. The mobile application processor (AP), which acts as the brain of the smartphone, has been significantly enhanced to maximize AI performance. The S24 Ultra is equipped with the Snapdragon 8 3rd generation, providing exceptional AI capabilities.

Challenging Apple’s Dominance

Samsung aims to topple Apple’s dominance in the smartphone market with the Galaxy S24 series. According to IDC, Apple surpassed Samsung in smartphone shipments and market share last year. Apple’s market share was 20.1%, surpassing Samsung’s 19.4%.

Premium Strategy and Pricing

The sales strategy for the Galaxy S24 series focuses on premiumization. As demand for low- to mid-range devices decreases and sales of premium smartphones continue to rise, Samsung has adopted titanium material to enhance the luxurious feel and durability. The price of the top-tier model, the S24 Ultra, has increased by approximately 100,000 to 150,000 won compared to its predecessor. The prices for the S24 and S24 Plus remain in the same range as their predecessors.

The Galaxy S24 Ultra is priced at 1,698,400 won for the 256GB model, 1,841,400 won for the 512GB model, and 2,127,400 won for the 1TB model. The S24 is priced at 1,155,000 won for the 256GB model, and the S24 Plus is priced at 1,353,000 won for the 256GB model. Pre-orders for the Galaxy S24 series will start in South Korea from the 19th to the 25th of this month, with global sales commencing on the 31st.
