Photographer Goryeomyeong’s Exhibition ‘The Podo’ Showcases the Surreal Beauty of Grapes

The solo exhibition ‘The Podo’ by photographer Goryeomyeong is currently being held at the Geumsan Window Gallery. The exhibition features 8 new works that capture the essence of grapes from a unique perspective.

Hyperrealism and Meticulous Observation

Goryeomyeong, known for his pursuit of hyperrealism, employed a meticulous approach to capture the intricate details of grapes. Using a large German camera and special film used for space observation, the artist implemented analog photography techniques to achieve a close-up perspective. This technique allowed for the depiction of black-coated grapes, revealing even the finest wrinkles on the surface. By magnifying and printing these small objects with precision, Goryeomyeong created visually captivating and impactful artwork.

Expanding the Boundaries of Art

Goryeomyeong pushes the boundaries of traditional photography by incorporating painterly elements into his images. This artistic endeavor not only enhances visual appeal but also explores the possibilities of black and white aesthetics. The black grapes adorned with gold beads symbolize the spiritual and aesthetic values that arise from the process of observation.

Grapes as Symbolic Subjects

The deliberate choice of grapes as the subject matter holds significance. Goryeomyeong explains that grapes possess a unique beauty, being simultaneously empty and full. The artist hopes that viewers can find solace, inspiration, and a personal outlet through the artwork. By emphasizing the aesthetic value, energy, and potential for circulation, Goryeomyeong highlights the role of art in evoking emotions.
