The Sejong Cultural Center has wrapped up the 15th edition of its Citizen Theater Class, showcasing the passion for theater among Seoul citizens. The Citizen Theater Class is an educational program that provides theater theory, practical training, and performance opportunities to the citizens. It has been running since 2009, with the 15th edition being the latest installment.
In the 15th edition, 29 citizens were selected to receive comprehensive education from members of the Seoul Metropolitan Theater for approximately six months. The program covered various aspects of theater, including basic understanding and awareness, creativity and expression training, and programs to enhance participant unity.
The 15th Citizen Theater Class presented four performances on the stage of Sejong Cultural Center’s S Theater. The Seoul Metropolitan Theater actively participated in the final selection of the performance works, as well as in rehearsals and actual performances.
Two students, Kim Shinki and Lee Seungwoo, directed and performed William Shakespeare’s masterpieces “Hamlet” and “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” themselves. Their passionate performances captivated the audience, showcasing their talent and dedication.
On the final day of the performances, Ahn Ho-sang, the CEO of Sejong Cultural Center, and Ko Seon-woong, the director of the Seoul Metropolitan Theater, attended the press conference and expressed admiration for the exceptional acting skills of the citizen actors. Ahn Ho-sang praised the participants’ moving dedication and encouraged them to continue challenging themselves in their everyday lives. Ko Seon-woong emphasized the importance of ongoing collaboration with citizens to create a better environment.
Song Eun-seung, who represented the 15th edition, shared sincere stories about his experiences as a citizen actor on the stage of Sejong Cultural Center. He expressed that his lifelong dream had come true and cherished the precious memories he gained during the unforgettable journey.
