According to a recent survey conducted by Dong-A Ilbo, the Democratic Party is showing a commanding lead in Gyeonggi Province, with overwhelming support in 48 out of 59 constituencies. This positions the party as the dominant force in the region as the countdown to the 2023 general elections reaches 100 days.
The survey, conducted by Dong-A Ilbo, reveals that the Democratic Party has regained its footing in Gyeonggi Province, winning the majority in 48 out of 59 constituencies. This surge in support is particularly evident in key areas such as Uijeongbu, Seongnam, and Suwon. Analysts attribute this success to the “incumbent premium” effect, as current lawmakers benefit from their positions.
On the other hand, the opposition party, the People’s Party, is making efforts to sway public opinion by highlighting the ruling party’s responsibility for issues such as declining housing prices.
The Dong-A Ilbo survey was conducted from December 26th to 28th, 2022, and targeted 824 adults aged 18 and above residing in Gyeonggi Province. The survey utilized a combination of landline (20%) and mobile phone (80%) interviews, with the help of virtual phone numbers provided by three telecommunication companies. The margin of error for the survey is ±3.5 percentage points, with a confidence level of 95%.
As the general elections draw nearer, the survey results highlight the Democratic Party’s advantageous position in Gyeonggi Province. With a majority in 48 out of 59 constituencies and leading in 5 out of 6 key areas, the Democratic Party’s strong performance in Gyeonggi Province is expected to have a significant impact on the overall election results. Meanwhile, the People’s Party faces the challenge of responding to the Democratic Party’s incumbent advantage and addressing the public’s concerns on various issues.
