According to a report from Newsis, Gangjin’s Maeryang Port is experiencing an economic boom thanks to sea fishing vessels, with a total economic effect of 1.4 billion won. As of the end of November, the cumulative number of users of the Maeryang Port sea fishing vessels has surpassed 7,000. This shows a steady increase in usage, starting from just 40 people in June before the attraction was established, and rising to 1,206 in July, 1,271 in August, 1,269 in September, 1,462 in October, and 1,744 in November.

The number of users has been consistently increasing since June, and there has been a significant surge in usage, particularly after the national sea fishing competition held on October 28. This steady growth in sea fishing vessel users is directly contributing to the revitalization of the local economy.

Visitors to Maeryang Port are actively spending in various industries such as restaurants, cafes, and convenience stores, leading to an estimated cumulative economic effect of approximately 1.39 billion won. Sea fishing vessels have played a significant role in revitalizing the local business district.

Gangjin County Pursues Policies to Boost Sea Fishing Vessels

Gangjin County plans to continue implementing policies to promote sea fishing vessels and establish Maeryang Port as a mecca for sea fishing vessels. In the coming year, they will provide incentives to fishing enthusiasts through tourist buses, organize national sea fishing competitions, and develop fishing experience tourism products.

Maeryang Port has the unique characteristic of being able to engage in fishing activities throughout the year, unlike other coastal areas that have limited fishing seasons. Therefore, Gangjin County plans to attract an additional 20 to 30 sea fishing vessels next year.
