Renowned abstract painters Baek Seung-su and Park In-hyuk, who reside in Paris, France, have captivated the art scene in Seoul with their latest exhibition. The highly anticipated 2-person show, hosted at the prestigious K-Rise Gallery in Seoul’s Samsungdong district, opened its doors on the 10th of the month, showcasing a mesmerizing display of abstract artworks.
Baek Seung-su’s works, when viewed from a distance, resemble stunning black ink paintings with a touch of minimalism. His artistic process involves repetitive acts of molding using unconventional materials such as polystyrene and silicone, which are often discarded after the production of molds. However, Baek Seung-su’s masterful use of these materials breathes new life into them, infusing them with a renewed sense of value. Visitors to the exhibition can explore his thought-provoking series, including the evocative “Black” and “Bloom” collections.
Park In-hyuk, on the other hand, surprises viewers with his energetic and dynamic abstract paintings, which he aptly titled “Landscape.” Drawing inspiration from the raw power of nature, Park In-hyuk’s works exude a sense of untamed energy. His bold brushstrokes, created using a rich blend of acrylic and oil paints, bring his canvases to life, evoking a sense of motion and depth. Park In-hyuk’s journey as an artist includes studying at Chonnam National University and completing his doctoral program at Paris 1 University.
Both Baek Seung-su and Park In-hyuk have a unique connection to the acclaimed artist Lee Bae. Baek Seung-su had the privilege of working as Lee Bae’s assistant, while Park In-hyuk’s works bear resemblance to Lee Ufan’s renowned “Wind” series. This shared artistic lineage adds an intriguing layer to their respective exhibitions, allowing viewers to explore the influence and inspiration that these renowned artists have had on their journey.
The exhibition, which has already garnered significant attention, will run until December 20th, providing art enthusiasts with a limited opportunity to immerse themselves in the world of abstract art. Visitors can experience the captivating works of Baek Seung-su and Park In-hyuk, both of whom have gained international recognition for their unique artistic expressions.
As the art scene in Seoul continues to thrive, exhibitions like these serve as a testament to the city’s vibrant cultural landscape. The K-Rise Gallery, known for its commitment to showcasing innovative and thought-provoking artworks, once again solidifies its position as a leading destination for contemporary art in the heart of Seoul.
