Famous Florida Couple Illegally Resided for 15 Years Behind Spectacular Christmas Light Display: Report

A well-known Florida couple, famous for their extravagant Christmas light display, has been discovered to have illegally resided in a mansion for 15 years, according to a report from The New York Post.

Illegal Residence in Former Miami Dolphins Player’s Mansion

The Hyatt family, known for their eerie Christmas light decorations and props reminiscent of the North Pole, resided illegally in a mansion that was once owned by a former Miami Dolphins player, as revealed in the report.

Unpaid Taxes and Forged Documents

The authorities in Broward County are planning to collect $34,724 in unpaid taxes from the estate where the Hyatt family lived without paying rent for 15 years. A real estate appraiser’s investigation spanning seven months uncovered the fact that the family had used forged documents to falsely claim ownership of the property.

Investigation Spanning Several Years

The investigation into the Hyatt family’s actions dates back to 2013 and is still ongoing from 2020 to 2022. Cash Hyatt, one of the family members, raised concerns about a document from 2005, leading to the revelation that they had illegally obtained ownership of the property. During a divorce proceeding, Cash Hyatt denied ever owning the property and declared the document to be fake.

Disputed Residence and Legal Disputes

The Hyatt couple found themselves residing in a disputed property after an investor purchased the original mortgage, leaving the previous owner, Brett Perryman, facing foreclosure. Instead of a mortgage transfer, the investor received a relinquishment of ownership document.

Mark Hyatt, in an attempt to accuse the investor of unauthorized occupation, created fake documents regarding the property. The Hyatt couple broke into the house, changed the locks, and discarded all the belongings of the investor. They considered themselves squatters and claimed they had never paid any money to occupy the house.

Legal Battle and Political Fallout

In 2014, the city of Plantation filed a lawsuit against the Hyatt family due to concerns about traffic accidents caused by their popular Christmas light display. The legal battle between the Hyatt family and the city cost the city approximately $427,000 in legal expenses.

Mark Hyatt, during his campaign for city council, criticized the city’s handling of the legal dispute. However, he was later removed from his position as a city council member in 2017, and the couple divorced the same year. Tragically, Mark Hyatt passed away three years after the divorce.

Current Status and Ongoing Investigation

The mansion is currently registered as a real estate agency operated by Cash Hyatt on Google Maps. An ongoing investigation is being conducted into the actions of the Hyatt family, as authorities seek to uncover the full extent of their illegal residence and ownership claims.

As the investigation continues, the Hyatt family’s actions serve as a cautionary tale, shedding light on the consequences of illegal residence and property ownership.
