Bus Driver Strike Prevents 900 Jewish Individuals from Attending Pro-Israel Rally

Due to a bus driver strike, approximately 900 Jewish individuals were unable to attend a pro-Israel rally in Washington DC. The strike, organized by the bus drivers, intentionally and maliciously aimed to prevent Jewish rally participants from attending the event.

The Jewish Federation of Detroit had chartered three private planes to transport the rally participants. However, when the planes landed at the airport, most of the assigned buses did not show up on the runway, leaving the stranded passengers unable to reach their destination.

After spending over seven hours on the runway, the stranded passengers were finally divided among several available buses. However, those who were not supposed to be on the buses were quickly asked to disembark.

The charter flights that the Jewish rally participants were on could not leave the runway without pre-arranged ground transportation. As a result, those who were unable to board the limited buses had to return to the planes and ultimately missed the entire day of the rally.

The Jewish Federation of Detroit, which organized the charter planes and buses, expressed anger at the intentional and malicious strike by the bus drivers. The CEO of the Jewish Federation confirmed that the bus drivers had refused to transport the rally participants, labeling the strike as a deliberate act of anti-Semitism.

Jewish rally participants, who had spent hundreds of dollars to attend the event, expressed great disappointment at being unable to participate. They made frantic phone calls from the runway to find out what was happening and expressed their frustration at being unable to exercise their constitutional right to assemble.

This transportation issue was not unique to the Jewish Federation of Detroit. In Westport, Connecticut, hundreds of people faced similar problems when transportation for the rally was canceled by the company, citing scheduling errors. Rally participants had to find alternative means of transportation to reach Washington DC.

The actions of the bus company raised concerns about potential legal issues. Attorney and founder of the Lopera Project, Brooke Goldstein, stated that a company blatantly refusing service to Jews would be engaging in illegal discrimination.

The pro-Israel rally aimed to condemn the rising anti-Semitism and demand the release of Israeli hostages held by Hamas. Jewish rally participants who were unable to attend marched on the runway, waving Israeli flags and chanting “Am Yisrael Chai” as a show of unity and support.

The Jewish Federation of Detroit and the rally participants joined forces with tens of thousands of allied nations to send a message of unity and support for the Jewish community. They expressed their disappointment at not being able to be together in this historic moment and their commitment to standing against anti-Semitism.

Overall, the bus driver strike and subsequent transportation issues prevented 900 Jewish individuals from attending the pro-Israel rally, highlighting the need to address acts of discrimination and ensure that all individuals can exercise their right to assemble.
