The Biden administration’s Original Sin on the world stage
By Ted Budd, Senator | Published on November 9, 2023, at 8:00am EST
The world is increasingly facing greater turmoil as evil and unstable forces gain momentum. However, due to President Biden’s lack of power and focus, the United States finds itself vulnerable to both domestic and international threats.
In the Middle East, Hamas has carried out massacres, claiming the lives of over 1,400 Israelis and 33 Americans. Iran, as a major sponsor of terrorism and a supporter of Hamas, continues to provide support and approval for attacks against US forces in the region.
Russia’s invasion of Ukraine and its involvement in the Balkans and Caucasus conflicts pose a serious threat to peace and stability in Europe.
China, considered the biggest threat to US national security, rapidly expands its military power, posing risks to its allies and partners. Additionally, China engages in intellectual property theft amounting to billions of dollars.
The United States is already grappling with serious security issues on its southern border.
The global security situation is reaching a tipping point that could lead the US into unwanted direct conflicts. To avoid this nightmare scenario, the United States urgently needs strong leadership, strategic investments, clear goals, and principles. Unfortunately, President Biden has failed in all these aspects.
The Biden administration’s Original Sin lies in its failure to recognize that a strong America begins with strength at home. The vulnerabilities exposed by the COVID-19 pandemic, such as weaknesses in the US supply chain and the need for revitalizing US manufacturing, emphasize the importance of these issues.
The soaring violent crime rates, chaos at the southern border, and the devastating impact of deadly drugs like fentanyl, which claimed the lives of over 100,000 Americans last year alone, further highlight the urgent need for action.
Moreover, skyrocketing prices of groceries, gas, electricity bills, declining student test scores, and excessive overregulation are crippling the entrepreneurial spirit in the United States.
Considering these bleak domestic conditions, it is natural for some Americans to question the billions of dollars in foreign aid being sent overseas. However, rebuilding the United States and supporting allies should not be seen as a zero-sum game.
It is possible to prioritize US interests while exercising global leadership. Embracing isolationism and withdrawing support from allies like Israel, Ukraine, and Taiwan would only expose vulnerabilities to hostile forces like China, Russia, and Iran.
The Republican Party has a unique opportunity to correct the direction of domestic and foreign policies. Restoring the Republican Party’s status as a strong defense advocate is a crucial starting point. This requires investing in rebuilding the industrial base and making promises that benefit future generations.
Open and honest debates about each conflict are essential. It is deeply concerning that the Biden administration denied US citizens and representatives the opportunity to vote independently by presenting a $106 billion emergency national security funding request intertwined with various issues.
While the goals of Biden’s funding request are commendable, there are clear flaws in the details. Border security should be the top priority. While the Biden package includes funding for additional border patrol agents, it also includes provisions that could worsen the current crisis, such as support for sanctuary cities and expanding illegal immigration routes.
In terms of international military aid, priority should be given to US manufacturing and modernization. This approach not only creates new and high-paying jobs for American workers but also ensures that our leaders have the necessary tools to maintain peace and security.
Standing firmly with Israel, one of our closest allies, is crucial. Immediate support, including replenishing missile defense systems like Iron Dome and ammunition stockpiling, is of utmost importance.
However, the current approach to supporting Gaza effectively provides a blank check to Hamas, the terrorist organization responsible for the slaughter of Israeli and American citizens. Any support to Gaza must be conditional until the safe return of hostages and the end of Hamas’ rule.
Additional support for Ukraine must come with clear conditions. The Biden administration needs to demonstrate a clear strategy to pressure Putin into negotiating on favorable terms and ensure transparent accountability measures to avoid wasting taxpayers’ money.
While concerns about the impact of aid to Ukraine on arming Taiwan and countering China’s aggression are understandable, restraining China should remain the top priority. The current White House package falls short in addressing security concerns in the Indo-Pacific region.
Ultimately, strength deters aggression, while weakness invites it. China, Russia, and Iran closely observe US actions. When the United States leads from a position of economic and military strength, the world becomes safer.
Decline is a choice, and now is the time to make the right decisions. Investing in the United States and supporting allies in ways that align with US interests is the wise path forward. This includes providing critical aid to Israel, Ukraine, and Taiwan while directly investing in US manufacturing to build a more modern military. The United States currently lacks the strength, wisdom, and leadership it needs.
