The Seoul Metropolitan Art Museum is hosting an exhibition as part of the 2024 Emerging Artists Support Program. The program aims to provide a platform for talented artists to showcase their innovative ideas and artistic expressions to the public. This exhibition will feature the works of Kim Gyu-rim and Jung Seo-hee, two emerging artists selected for the program.
Kim Gyu-rim has been chosen as one of the main artists for the program and will present a solo exhibition titled “Shaking Shadows.” The exhibition will take place at the Seoul Metropolitan North Seoul Art Museum located in Nowon-gu, Seoul. Visitors can enjoy the exhibition from now until October 6, 2024.
“Shaking Shadows” draws inspiration from the mesmerizing image of the M87 black hole, which has captivated both scientists and artists. The exhibition explores the visualization of invisible matter related to the phenomenon known as “shaking shadows.” Kim Gyu-rim utilizes various technical devices such as radio telescopes, optical telescopes, CCD sensor cameras, and 16mm film cameras to create thought-provoking artworks. This exhibition offers a unique opportunity to reflect on the impact of these technologies on our perception and sensory experiences.
Jung Seo-hee, another artist selected for the 2024 Emerging Artists Support Program, will present a solo exhibition titled “Cradle of Love.” The exhibition will be held at Osiseon in Seongdong-gu, Seoul, from September 21 to October 5, 2024.
“Cradle of Love” takes a speculative approach to imagine a future dominated by advanced technology. The exhibition revolves around the protagonist “Ray,” who faces various challenges in a world where human relationships are becoming increasingly fragile. Jung Seo-hee explores the ethical dilemmas arising from the relationship between humans and artificial entities through this narrative. Visitors will have the opportunity to reflect on the implications of rapid technological advancements on human relationships.
Both exhibitions provide a special opportunity for art enthusiasts and the general public to engage with contemporary societal issues through the lens of artistic expression. The artworks of Kim Gyu-rim and Jung Seo-hee demonstrate how artists are expanding the boundaries of creativity and exploring the intersection between art and technology.
Visitors do not need to make a reservation to attend the “Shaking Shadows” and “Cradle of Love” exhibitions. Simply arrive at the exhibition venues to experience these thought-provoking displays of art. The Seoul Metropolitan North Seoul Art Museum and Osiseon aim to provide easy access to art for everyone.
The current exhibitions not only showcase the talents of Kim Gyu-rim and Jung Seo-hee but also emphasize the importance of supporting emerging artists in the contemporary art scene. The Seoul Metropolitan Art Museum continues to contribute to the cultural landscape of the city by providing a platform for innovative ideas and artistic exploration.
