Gyeonggi Sina Orchestra presents ‘Weekend Concert 4 PM: Tradition, Brilliance’

Suwon, Gyeonggi – Gyeonggi Arts Center’s Gyeonggi Sina Orchestra will showcase ‘Weekend Concert 4 PM: Tradition, Brilliance’ at the National Gugak Center on the 27th. This special concert is part of Gyeonggi Sina Orchestra’s repertoire season 2024, featuring the diversity and authenticity of traditional cultural arts.

Embracing the diversity and authenticity of traditional cultural arts

The previous performances in March and May were sold out, contributing to a sense of empathy towards our traditional cultural arts. These achievements served as a reminder of the importance of traditional culture. In this performance, the orchestra will present the meeting of Joseon Dynasty’s elegant music and court music, encapsulating the theme of ‘Tradition, Brilliance’ with a touch of contemporary national identity.

A celebration of 500 years of Joseon Dynasty music

Gyeonggi Sina Orchestra will showcase music that spans 500 years of Joseon Dynasty history. The performance will be accompanied by Daniel Lindemann’s explanations, known for his appearance on the JTBC program ‘Abnormal Summit,’ allowing the audience to experience the rich cultural heritage of the Joseon Dynasty through music.

A performance composed of various genres

This performance consists of a total of six pieces, each capturing the charm of traditional Korean music. The first piece, ‘Dae Chwit’a,’ features the percussion ensemble that accompanies the king’s procession and royal messenger’s parade. ‘Dae Chwit’a’ is a highly acclaimed piece at international military band competitions, showcasing a solemn and dignified performance through its splendid golden costumes, instruments, and restrained movements.

The significance of ‘Cheonnyeonmanse’

The second piece, ‘Cheonnyeonmanse,’ represents a wish for longevity lasting a thousand years. This piece, which was responsible for the elegant atmosphere of the literati’s gatherings, is performed as chamber music, offering an opportunity to indirectly experience the culture enjoyed by the literati through its lively and fast-paced ensemble.

The unique charm of ‘Park Jongseon-ryu Ajaeng Sanjo’

The following stage will feature ‘Park Jongseon-ryu Ajaeng Sanjo,’ performed by Ahn Gyeong-yeon on the ajaeng and Park Nam-eon on the janggu. ‘Park Jongseon-ryu Ajaeng Sanjo’ is a piece that clearly exhibits the characteristics of woojo seonyul in jinyangjo and jungmori, with geomyeonjo in jungjungmori and jajinmori. This piece stands out with its elegant and solid taste compared to other ajaeng sanjo.

A modern interpretation of Gyeonggi Japga ‘Seonyuga’

The fourth piece is Gyeonggi Japga ‘Seonyuga,’ which will be performed according to the arrangement by composer Choi Ji-un. This piece will be performed with the arrangement by Choi Ji-un and the vocals of Ji Ha, Ham Young-seon, and Park Jin-ha. The arrangement will include performances by salt, daegeum, piri, ajaeng, saenghwang, gayageum, and percussion.

The beauty of Korean dance ‘Pogurak’

The next stage will showcase Korean dance ‘Pogurak.’ ‘Pogurak’ is a dance that depicts the nobles who came down from the divine world, throwing colored balls into the lotus jar in the center of the reward table while singing. This performance allows the audience to experience the playing culture of the time, where dots were drawn on flowers and faces, through dance. The performance will be presented by Gyeonggi Dance Company and Gyeonggi Sina Orchestra.

The final stage, ‘Anjeonban Samulnori’

The last stage of the performance is ‘Anjeonban Samulnori,’ which concludes the concert with a lively and refreshing atmosphere. ‘Anjeonban Samulnori’ emphasizes the excitement and dynamism that can be felt in the musical performance itself, providing an opportunity to experience the unique rhythm system of Korean traditional music.
