Former lawmaker Yoo Seung-min has expressed strong concerns about the recent low approval ratings of the Yoon Seok-yeol government. He warned that the current level of support for the ruling party is at its lowest point and stated, “If we continue like this, we will fail.” On the 13th, he conveyed this position through his social networking service (SNS).
According to a survey conducted by the Korean Gallup, President Yoon Seok-yeol’s approval rating has reached a record low of 20%. The survey was conducted from the 10th to the 12th of this month, targeting 1,002 adults nationwide. The survey results were announced with a 95% confidence level and a sampling error of ±3.1 percentage points. Additionally, negative evaluations of President Yoon reached as high as 70%.
Respondents identified the expansion of medical school admissions as the main reason for the negative evaluation of President Yoon. This is seen as a reflection of dissatisfaction with government policies. Such public opinion is being pointed out as a danger signal that could lead to the loss of the government’s governing power.
According to the survey, the support for the People Power Party is at 28%, the Democratic Party of Korea at 33%, the Party for People’s Livelihoods at 8%, and the Reform Party at 2%. In particular, support for the People Power Party has dropped by 3 percentage points compared to the previous survey, reaching its lowest point since the start of the Yoon Seok-yeol government.
Former lawmaker Yoo Seung-min emphasized that the President must reflect on his incompetence and arrogance, stating that the President needs to wake up. He pointed out that the President should be the leader of a democratic republic, not an absolute monarch.
Yoo Seung-min urged the President to personally take the lead in resolving the tangled healthcare crisis, stating, “The President must take immediate action to resolve the situation.” He criticized the lack of proper functioning of the bipartisan consultative body and the wasted time. Yoo Seung-min argued that the President should make a decision on the expansion of medical school admissions.
Yoo Seung-min emphasized that those responsible for governance failures should all be replaced. He mentioned the issue of First Lady Kim Gun-hee, stating that it should be handled according to the law. He insisted that whether it be a special prosecutor, the Anti-Corruption and Civil Rights Commission, or the prosecution, they should not exercise their veto power or pressure, but rather handle it according to the law.
Yoo Seung-min argued that the ruling party should step out of its weak position of being cautious of the President and his spouse and take a stand in resolving issues. He stated that they should be ashamed of losing to an opposition party dominated by criminal suspects.
Yoo Seung-min warned, “If a party that loses in elections, fails to produce a policy document, and does not correct the mistakes in government policies that lead to the collapse of healthcare, it cannot escape the terrifying judgment of the people.” He cautioned that if this situation continues, the government’s credibility will further decline.
Yoo Seung-min’s remarks accurately reflect the current complex political situation in Korea. He warned that if the President and the ruling party do not reflect and correct their mistakes, they will face even greater challenges. This warning is not just a personal opinion but is based on deep insights into the current political situation, and it is something that all politicians and citizens should pay attention to.
