‘2023 Jeju Press Photo Exhibition’ Captures Hidden Stories of Jeju

The Jeju Photojournalists Association, in collaboration with the Korea Press Photographers Association, is set to host the ‘2023 Jeju Press Photo Exhibition’ from the 17th to the 22nd of this month at the Jeju Culture and Arts Center.

The exhibition will showcase a curated selection of over 100 photographs taken by six Jeju-based photojournalists, capturing various incidents, accidents, and issues that have unfolded in the Jeju region. Visitors can expect to see photographs depicting events such as the cancellation of the Jeju Mountain Fire Festival, the temporary opening of the first underground tunnel, and the funeral of a fallen firefighter.

In addition to local events and incidents, the exhibition will also feature photographs highlighting issues that have reverberated beyond Jeju, including protests against the release of contaminated water from the Fukushima nuclear power plant, commemorations for a deceased teacher at Seoicho Elementary School, and the problem of marine debris.

The exhibition will not only showcase the natural beauty and landscapes of Jeju Island but also offer glimpses into the everyday lives of its residents. Participating media outlets include Yonhap News, News1, Newsis, Hanra Ilbo, and Jeju Ilbo, all of which are members of the Korea Press Photographers Association.

Jeju Photojournalists Association President, Goh Bong-Soo, expressed his excitement about the exhibition, stating, “Following last year’s success, Jeju photojournalists have once again prepared a collection of press photographs documenting historic moments, showcasing their dedication and passion as recorders of history.”
