Spring Music Concert: KBS Symphony Orchestra and Choi Song-ha

The Maru Art Center, in collaboration with the KBS Symphony Orchestra, is hosting the “2024 Spring Music Concert” to bring forth the vibrant energy of spring. The concert, set to take place at the Maq Art Hall on April 29th, will feature renowned conductor Ji Joong-bae and acclaimed violinist Choi Song-ha as the collaborative performers.

Choi Song-ha: An Award-Winning Violinist

Choi Song-ha, who secured the 2nd place in the 2023 Montreal International Music Competition for the violin category, has received numerous accolades, including the Semi-Final Best Sonata Prize, the Canadian Composition Award, and the Audience Award. Currently studying under Kolja Blacher at the Hans Eisler National Music Academy in Berlin, she will be showcasing her talent by performing Mozart’s Violin Concerto No. 4 for the first time in South Korea.

Ji Joong-bae: A Rising Conductor

Ji Joong-bae, a promising conductor who graduated from Seoul National University and the Hanheim National Music Academy in Germany, has garnered recognition for his exceptional skills. In 2012, he became the first East Asian to win the German Opera Conducting Award. Having conducted various orchestras in Europe, including the East German Symphony Orchestra and the Bohemian Symphony Orchestra, he has also collaborated with renowned Korean orchestras such as the Seoul Metropolitan Symphony Orchestra, KBS Symphony Orchestra, and the National Symphony Orchestra.

Program Highlights: Embracing Bohemian Sentiment

The “2024 Spring Music Concert” is part of the Maru Cultural Foundation’s M-Classic Festival, which aims to evoke the sentiment of Bohemia through its warm melodies. The first part of the program will feature Johann Strauss II’s “Voices of Spring Waltz” followed by Mozart’s renowned “Violin Concerto No. 4.” Composed by Mozart himself at the age of 19 in 1775, the concerto showcases dynamic and dazzling melodies.

The second part of the program will captivate the audience with Antonin Dvorak’s “Symphony No. 8,” which represents the pinnacle of Czech music and embodies distinct nationalistic elements.
