On the occasion of the Lunar New Year, Jin Woo-seon, the head of Jogye Order, visited a family center in Jongno-gu to share joy and celebrate. The event, organized by the Jogye Order Social Welfare Foundation, was designed to support multicultural families and spread happiness during the holiday season.
Gifts for Multicultural Families
On January 6th, Jin Woo-seon arrived at the family center after preparing to deliver Lunar New Year gifts to multicultural families. The gifts included traditional Korean costumes symbolizing luck and prosperity, as well as pocket money for the children.
Promoting Understanding and Harmony
In his speech, Chairman Jin emphasized the importance of a harmonious world where everyone can grow and prosper regardless of their background. He acknowledged that Korean society is gradually transforming into a multicultural society and expressed the Buddhist community’s commitment to supporting the successful settlement of multicultural families.
“South Korea is no longer homogenous and is moving towards globalization. From a Buddhist perspective, all lives are equal, and we must strive for a harmonious society where multicultural families can thrive,” said Jin Woo-seon.
Multicultural Exchange Event
The event was attended by Jin Woo-seon, Jin Gyeong (the head of Jogye Order’s General Affairs), and Deok-un (the director of the Jogye Order Social Welfare Foundation). Multicultural families from various countries, including Russia, Uzbekistan, Vietnam, and China, participated in cultural exchanges and moments of understanding.
Experiencing Korean Traditions
During the event, Jin Woo-seon actively participated in cultural experience activities. He personally took part in making traditional Korean rice cake soup and dumplings, enjoying a pleasant and educational time with the participants. Making rice cake soup together, they shared stories about their own cultures and traditions, fostering understanding and empathy.
The Jongno-gu Family Center, operated by the Jogye Order Social Welfare Foundation since 2006, plays a vital role in supporting multicultural families. The center provides various services, including family support and activities, to help multicultural families adapt to Korean society and achieve social and economic independence.
Jin Woo-seon’s visit to the family center was a warm multicultural festival that promoted understanding, support for multicultural families, and cultural exchange. The event emphasized the importance of inclusiveness and harmony in our society as we strive for a brighter and more inclusive future.
