The Reform Party, led by Lee Jun-seok, has put forward a proposal to make military service mandatory for female applicants in various government positions. This pledge is in response to the pressing issue of a shortage of military personnel. The Liberty Korea Party aims to implement this policy by 2030.
On the 28th, Lee Jun-seok, the leader of the Reform Party, and Yang Hyang-ja, the leader of the Hope Party, conducted a joint campaign in Seoul’s Mapo District. This event followed the announcement of the merger between the two parties on the 24th.
On the 29th, Lee Jun-seok, the leader of the Reform Party, and Yang Hyang-ja, the leader of the Hope Party, released a joint agreement to merge their parties. The new party will be called the Reform Party, with the slogan “Hope for South Korea.”
The Reform Party has made a significant pledge regarding mandatory military service. They propose that new recruits in the police, coast guard, fire department, and correctional officer positions must fulfill their military service obligations. The objective of this policy is to address the urgent issue of military manpower shortage. The party aims to implement this proposal as early as 2030.
In addition to the proposal for mandatory military service, the Reform Party has pledged to support higher education for all military officers. They plan to provide financial aid of up to 20 million won per person for those who obtain degrees after completing their military service.
During a press conference at the National Assembly Communication Office, Lee Jun-seok emphasized the seriousness of the military manpower shortage. He proposed mandatory military service for female applicants as a solution. Lee Jun-seok expressed his determination to swiftly prepare legislation and improve living conditions within the party’s capacity to ensure the implementation of this policy by 2030. The Reform Party estimates that, if implemented, this policy could recruit approximately 7,000 new personnel annually, considering the high competition rate.
Lee Jun-seok acknowledges the potential controversies surrounding the proposal but believes that fundamental reform of the military service system is necessary. The party plans to gradually consider expanding the military service system to other fields as well.
Through their merger and policy proposals, the Reform Party and the Hope Party aim to address the issues of military manpower shortage and post-service education support for soldiers. They aspire to bring about significant changes in the political landscape of South Korea.
