The Future United Party, led by former Prime Minister Lee Nak-yeon, and the New Future Party, consisting of lawmakers who left the Democratic Party, have announced their integration as the “Reform Future Party.” The joint founding convention of the newly named party is scheduled to take place on the 4th of next month.
Park Won-seok, co-representative of the Future Alliance, and Shin Kyung-min, chairman of the New Future Party’s National Communication Committee, held a press conference at the National Assembly on the 28th to announce the integration of the two parties. They expressed their commitment to meet the expectations and demands of the people for reform, political innovation, social reform, and a transition to the future.
The decision to merge the two parties is driven by the pursuit of core democratic values, people’s livelihoods, and the future. The name “Reform Future Party” reflects the party’s focus on reform and its determination to address current challenges and create a better future.
The name “Reform Future Party” has been provisionally decided, but it will undergo a review process by the National Election Management Committee to ensure compliance with regulations regarding similar party names. Through this process, the party will consider the suggestions and opinions of the people to determine the final name.
The upcoming founding convention of the Reform Future Party will symbolize the integration of the two parties. It is scheduled to be held on the 4th of next month, where the party’s policies and election promises will be announced.
Lee Jun-seok, the representative of the Reform New Party, took to social media to address the choice of the name “Reform Future Party,” stating that it was intended to generate interest and create an issue. However, Shin Kyung-min, chairman of the New Future Party’s National Communication Committee, explained that the name was not chosen solely based on the concept of reform but also to encompass the spirit of the times, including the future, reform, and integration.
The integration of the Future United Party and the New Future Party signifies a significant development in Korean politics. The newly established Reform Future Party aims to bring about positive changes and address urgent issues facing the nation.
