Starting today, commuters in Seoul can enjoy the convenience and affordability of unlimited access to Seoul public transportation with the Climate Companion Card. Released by the Seoul Metropolitan Government, this monthly pass allows residents and visitors to freely commute without any restrictions, both in physical and mobile formats.
As the first of its kind in South Korea, the Climate Companion Card offers unlimited access to various transportation modes within Seoul. Cardholders can enjoy unrestricted usage of the Seoul subway, late-night buses, city and village buses with a Seoul driver’s license, and the public bike-sharing system, “Ttareungyi.” This comprehensive package of benefits enables commuters to navigate the city smoothly and reach their destinations with ease.
While the Climate Companion Card provides extensive benefits, there are a few exceptions to be aware of. It does not apply to the Shinbundang Line, buses departing from other cities, and express buses. Additionally, when cardholders take the subway in Seoul and disembark at an intercity station, they cannot use the Climate Companion Card for the exit fare. In such cases, an additional fee must be paid to the station staff.
However, there are exceptions to this rule. Cardholders can still use the Climate Companion Card when disembarking at certain outer stations, such as the entire Gimpo Gold Line, the entire Jinjeop Line, the Hanam section of Line 5, and the Incheon section of Line 7.
The Climate Companion Card is available in both mobile and physical card formats. The mobile card offers two options: a 62,000 won card and a 65,000 won card, depending on whether the user intends to use the public bike-sharing system or not. Android users can download the mobile T-money application and recharge the card through bank transfers to use the mobile card. On the other hand, iPhone users without the mobile T-money function must use the physical card for their daily commutes.
Both the mobile and physical cards can be recharged and used within five days of the recharge date. The physical card remains valid for 30 days, providing unlimited and convenient usage throughout the month.
Due to the “one person, one card” policy, group payments are not possible with the Climate Companion Card. During the first sales period from January 23rd to January 26th, a total of 155,730 cards were sold. Among them, 52,767 were mobile cards, while 97,806 were physical cards. This overwhelming response demonstrates the high demand and enthusiasm for the Climate Companion Card among commuters.
The introduction of the Climate Companion Card has brought about a revolutionary change in Seoul’s public transportation system, allowing commuters to enjoy unlimited usage and convenience at an affordable price. With its extensive coverage, flexible recharge options, and seamless integration with Seoul’s transportation network, the Climate Companion Card enhances the commuting experience for both residents and visitors, while promoting sustainability and reducing reliance on private vehicles.
