The Busan Cultural Foundation has announced the publication of the tenth volume of the “Busan’s Transfer Stations” series. The book, titled “Crossing Boundaries, Connecting People: Exploring the Meaning of Busan’s Transfer Stations,” delves into the history and cultural impact of transfer stations in Busan.
Since 2015, the Busan Cultural Foundation has been dedicated to showcasing the diverse aspects of Busan’s culture through annual themed publications. The tenth volume focuses on transfer stations as places where encounters, farewells, connections, and disruptions are condensed.
The book sheds light on transfer stations located in central areas of Busan such as Busan Station, Seomyeon Station, Suyeong Station, BEXCO Station, and Sasang Station. It examines how these stations have become integral parts of the cityscape, facilitating encounters and separations while serving as crucial transportation hubs.
In addition to exploring the contemporary significance of transfer stations, the book also delves into the history of transportation in Busan. It examines the emergence of railways and their impact on urban development in modern Busan. By understanding this history, readers can gain a deeper understanding of the role transfer stations play in shaping Busan’s identity.
The book features contributions from eleven individuals, including philosopher and film critic Lee Ji-hoon, Professor Lee Soon-wook, and local historian Kim Han-geun. Each contributor offers unique insights and expertise to comprehensively understand the cultural, social, and historical significance of Busan’s transfer stations.
The tenth volume of the “Busan’s Transfer Stations” series can be purchased at local bookstores in Busan or online. It is a must-read for those interested in Busan’s culture, history, and transportation infrastructure.
