The ruling party in South Korea, the People’s Party, has unveiled its election promises ahead of the upcoming general elections in April. These promises focus on addressing welfare and social issues that are of concern to the people. One notable promise is the issuance of random addresses to households at risk of exposure due to stalking or domestic violence, aiming to protect their safety.
The party conducted a nationwide call for election promises and received numerous proposals from the public. After a rigorous evaluation process, the promise to issue random addresses to households facing safety threats emerged as the final winning proposal. This promise accounts for 80% of all the winning promises, underscoring the party’s emphasis on addressing welfare challenges.
The opposition party, the Minjung Party, has expressed its intention to incorporate the elected promises into their election platform. The ruling party, the People’s Power, believes that these promises reflect the interests and demands of the people, and they are committed to further developing and implementing them to tackle welfare and social issues.
The selection of the winning promises was the result of the “People Plus Promise Contest,” an initiative aimed at incorporating the voices of the people into election promises. The contest was open to the general public and local party members, who submitted proposals for evaluation.
During the contest period, a total of 19 winning proposals were selected through blind evaluation by a judging panel composed of the ruling party’s policy development headquarters, policy committees, senior experts, and advisory committees. These winning proposals cover a wide range of issues, with a particular focus on welfare concerns.
One of the winning proposals in the general public category addresses the issue of households in crisis due to domestic violence and stalking not receiving welfare benefits. The proposal suggests issuing random addresses to reduce welfare blind spots and provide necessary support and benefits to vulnerable households.
Other winning proposals include transparent and affordable wedding costs, expanding counseling services for families with disabled children, and improving employment-linked internship programs. These proposals were selected based on their potential to address urgent social issues and fulfill the demands of the people.
The chairman of the People’s Power policy committee expressed the party’s commitment to further developing the winning promises and incorporating them into their election platform. He highlighted that 8 out of 10 winning proposals in the general public category were related to welfare issues, emphasizing the importance of addressing the welfare concerns of the people.
The ruling party plans to carefully review proposals that did not make the final selection and explore their policy feasibility to include a wide range of issues in their election promises. Their goal is to create promises that reflect the voices of the people, address their concerns, and bring about meaningful change to improve people’s lives.
