South Korea Ranks 5th in Global Military Power, North Korea at 36th, According to Latest GFP Report

According to a recent report by the Global Firepower (GFP) organization, South Korea has been evaluated as the 5th most powerful military nation out of 145 countries. The GFP report assesses military power based on various factors, including troop strength, weapon quantity, economic power, manpower availability, and defense budget.

The report reveals that South Korea has achieved a military power index score of 0.1416, securing its position as the 5th most powerful military nation globally. This marks a significant improvement from its previous rankings, where it consistently held the 6th position since 2015.

The United States claims the top spot in military power with a GFP score of 0.0699, followed closely by Russia at 2nd place with a score of 0.0702. China and India rank 3rd and 4th, respectively, with scores of 0.0706 and 0.1023. South Korea’s military power index score of 0.1416 surpasses both the United Kingdom (0.1443) and Japan (0.1601), placing South Korea at 6th and 7th positions, respectively.

On the other hand, North Korea’s military power index score is 0.5313, ranking it at 36th globally. The report highlights that North Korea’s ranking has dropped from 18th in 2019 to 34th in the previous year, and further to 36th in the current GFP report.

The GFP military power index indicates that a lower score represents a stronger military power. This index takes into account more than 60 individual indicators, including troop strength, weapon quantity, economic power, manpower availability, and defense budget.
