A special exhibition titled ‘Happy Hori Day’ is being held at the Hori Artspace in Seoul, South Korea. The exhibition, curated by Kim Na-ri, features the works of 23 artists, ranging from their 30s to 80s, and offers a unique opportunity to experience a diverse range of contemporary art.
The exhibition showcases a total of 36 art pieces, including works by renowned artists who have previously exhibited in 2020 as well as those who will exhibit in 2024. Visitors can expect to admire the skillful brushwork of artist Lee Geon-yong in his piece titled ‘Body Scape.’ Another artist, Seung Yeon-rye, presents two striking drawings that highlight her impressive brushwork.
An artist making a name in figurative painting, Ahn Chang-hong, will display two small pieces from his ‘Nameless’ series, featuring captivating facial expressions. Oh Won-bae, honored as the ‘Artist of the Year’ by the Incheon Cultural Foundation, presents meditative drawings that beautifully capture the awe-inspiring West Sea tidal flats.
Kim Nam-pyo, known as the ‘Tiger Artist,’ unveils a magnificent masterpiece depicting the mystical sunrise scene where the blue sea and sky of Jeju Island converge. Additionally, visitors can enjoy the surrealistic artwork of Cha So-rim, the reinterpretation of ordinary landscapes by Park Hyo-bin and Yoo Hyun-kyung, and the enchanting brushstrokes of Choi Je.
Noteworthy artists also include Kang Min-soo, famous for his ‘Moon Jar’ artwork, and Kang Jun-young, who conveys powerful messages through his Moon Jar-inspired pieces. Han Gyeol showcases a unique artistic sense of minimalism, while Huh Myung-wook and Nam Ji-hyeong present paintings on circular canvases, expressing abstract and figurative elements respectively.
Kim Chan-il’s research-based artwork explores the possibilities of painting through repetitive and performative processes. The exhibition also features ceramic artwork by Kim Myeong-ju and Jung Ji-suk, as well as Song Pil’s bronze and stainless steel plum blossom pieces, leaving a lasting impression on visitors. Filmmaker Min Byung-hoon’s captivating video artwork offers a mesmerizing portrayal of Jeju Island’s picturesque landscapes.
The ‘Happy Hori Day’ exhibition will run until the end of the month at Hori Artspace. This comprehensive showcase of Korean contemporary art provides a unique opportunity to immerse oneself in the beauty and complexity of the country’s artistic landscape.
