Renowned artist Bin Woo-hyuk is captivating art enthusiasts with his latest solo exhibition titled “Die Everjagd” at Gallery Barton in Seoul. The exhibition, set to commence on the 12th, showcases a series of 49 drawings that capture the intense energy and tension between humans and animals.
During leisurely walks in Tiergarten Park, Bin Woo-hyuk found inspiration in the mesmerizing landscapes and sculptures. Despite facing challenges due to calcific tendinitis, the artist successfully transferred these captivating scenes onto canvas, resulting in the birth of the powerful drawing series “Die Everjagd.”
One of the artist’s main challenges was how to translate the visible landscapes into a two-dimensional plane. Bin Woo-hyuk dedicated considerable effort to filter out and condense the unseen information inherent in the landscapes, ensuring a depth of expression in his artwork.
Unexpected periods of rest have led to a more mature and flexible artistic approach evident in Bin Woo-hyuk’s latest creations showcased in this exhibition. The artist’s time spent in Berlin has undeniably influenced the evolution of his art, resulting in a collection of works that captivate viewers with their depth and flexibility.
Gallery Barton describes this exhibition as a departure from Bin Woo-hyuk’s previous works, focusing on vast landscapes. Instead, the artist now emphasizes micro-subjects such as the surface of water or moss around trees. These subjects are expressed with abstract and vibrant colors, enabling viewers to experience the essence of nature from a fresh perspective.
Bin Woo-hyuk is an acclaimed artist and a member of the Berlin Association of Visual Artists (BBK Berlin). He graduated from the Graduate School of Western Painting at Seoul National University’s College of Fine Arts. Bin Woo-hyuk has held solo exhibitions at prestigious venues such as Gallery Barton, Gyeonggi Museum of Art, OCI Art Museum, and Chapter Two. His works are part of the collections of renowned institutions like the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art and the Seoul Museum of Art.
