Special Exhibition at Daejeon Shinsegae Gallery: When the Dragon Meets the Moon in the Year of Gapjin

In celebration of the upcoming Year of Gapjin, Daejeon Shinsegae Gallery presents a special exhibition that captures the essence of the dragon’s energy and New Year’s wishes. The exhibition, titled “Wishing Upon the Dragon,” will be held at Daejeon Shinsegae Art & Science from the 5th of the month until the 19th of next month.

Diverse Artworks on Display

The exhibition features a variety of artworks, including the dragons of eight different artists such as Kwak Soo-yeon, Kim Ji-young, Na In-joo, Nam Jae-hyun, Noh Dong-sik, Byun Ji-hyun, Lee Don-a, and Hwang Ji-yeon. From the twelve zodiac animals to the genie from the fairytale “Aladdin,” as well as moon-themed artworks representing individual hopes and aspirations, there is a wide range of pieces on display.

Large Installations and Murals

At the entrance of the exhibition, visitors will be greeted by a large-scale installation artwork depicting the genie. Inside the gallery, there is also a vibrant and expansive moon mural by Byun Ji-hyun.

Various Artworks by Different Artists

Within the artworks of Nam Jae-hyun, Byun Ji-hyun, and Lee Don-a, both large and small moons and moon motifs welcome the audience, symbolizing tranquility and an ideal world, as well as prosperity and wealth. The twelve zodiac gods in Na In-joo’s intricately crafted village landscape convey warmth and familiarity to viewers, while Hwang Ji-yeon’s characters in her artworks, inspired by traditional folk paintings, exude loveliness with a modern touch.

Mysterious Energy and Symbol of Hope

The mythical creature Myoryong, depicted in Kwak Soo-yeon’s artwork, emanates a mysterious energy to those who behold it, while Kim Ji-young’s blue dragon, adorned with intricate coloring and meticulous brushwork, seems to soar with strength, symbolizing a hopeful New Year.

Art Class and Memo Wishes

During the exhibition, visitors can write their wishes on memo papers shaped like the moon. Additionally, art classes titled “Creating My Own Folk Painting Theater” will be held every Friday to Sunday at 2 PM, adding more fun and engagement for the audience.
