Children’s Art Program at Gyeongnam Provincial Museum: Connecting Ordinary Life and Communication

Gyeongnam Provincial Museum will be hosting a children’s art program called “00 Years Old, My Story” from January 10th to 12th, targeting children during their winter vacation. This program is designed to introduce the lives and history of ordinary people depicted in artworks, and to share the value and significance of these stories.

Program Details

Through various activities, participating children will have the opportunity to share their everyday stories and experience how ordinary life stories can be transformed into a form of art and communication.

The first session on January 10th, titled “My Story,” will allow children to introduce themselves, get to know each other, and express themselves by finding their own representation within the exhibition artworks.

The second session on January 11th, titled “If I Were,” will encourage children to express and share their thoughts by connecting them with the exhibition artworks.

The final session on January 12th, titled “We Are Family,” will focus on family as a theme. Children will explore artworks depicting families, share what they want to convey to their own families, and express themselves through storytelling.

Video Production and Public Sharing of Activities

An interesting aspect of this program is that the educational activities conducted over the three days will be recorded and produced into videos. These videos will be edited and shared on the museum’s YouTube channel, allowing more people to listen to and share the stories of participating children.

Application and Further Information

Applications for the program will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis, with 15 spots available for each grade level (1st to 3rd grade and 4th to 6th grade). Detailed information can be found on the Gyeongnam Provincial Museum’s official website and various web channels.

Other Exhibition-Related Programs

In addition, there will be an exhibition-related program in late January, where participating artists and researchers from the exhibition “Countless Farewells” will collaborate. More information about this program will be announced by the museum in mid-January.

Comment from the Museum Director

Park Geum-sook, the director of Gyeongnam Provincial Museum, expressed her hope that the diverse life stories shared by children through this program will be transformed into a new form of art and communication. She also mentioned that the museum will continue to welcome audiences with various programs even in 2024.
