Former leader 이준석 and 한동훈 of South Korea’s political party are embroiled in a heated debate regarding the relevance of “Three Kingdoms” politics. The discussion has sparked controversy and raised questions about the fate of 여포 (Yeo-po) and 동탁 (Dong-tak).
In a recent meeting, 이준석, the former leader of the ruling party 국민의힘 (People Power Party), expressed his disagreement with 한동훈’s suggestion to avoid engaging in “Three Kingdoms” politics. 이준석 went as far as comparing the situation to a historical event, stating that 여포 would stab 동탁.
이준석 held a press conference at a restaurant in Seoul’s Nowon-gu, where he announced his resignation from the party. This move has further intensified the ongoing debate and added fuel to the already heated discussions.
이준석 took to social media to express his admiration for the historical figure 제갈량 and his way of life. He stated that if given the choice, he would aspire to live a life similar to 제갈량, rather than 동탁 and 여포.
한동훈, the emergency response committee chairman of 국민의힘, made his suggestion during the first committee meeting held at the National Assembly in Seoul’s Yeouido. He urged his colleagues to refrain from engaging in “Three Kingdoms” politics, citing historical dramas and their unfavorable outcomes.
한동훈 compared the situation to historical events such as 궁중암투 (intrigue in the royal court) and 합종연횡 (marriage alliances between different states). He emphasized that historical dramas often depict the villain winning and the hero, like 제갈량, ultimately losing.
이준석 responded to 한동훈’s remarks by mentioning the Peloponnesian War in Western history. He highlighted the conflict between Athens and Sparta, suggesting that studying history would reveal how Sparta eventually benefited Macedonia.
Both 이준석 and 한동훈 emphasized the significance of studying history accurately. 이준석 even mentioned 이재명 (Lee Jae-myung) and compared him to Alexander the Great, implying that a proper understanding of history is essential.
As the debate continues, South Korea’s political landscape remains divided over the relevance and impact of “Three Kingdoms” politics. The discussions surrounding 여포 and 동탁’s fate serve as a reminder of the importance of historical context in shaping contemporary political discourse.
