Pastor Lee Young-hoon of Yeouido Full Gospel Church in South Korea has been receiving significant media attention as a positive figure in the Korean church.
In a report released by Cross Media Lab on December 29, it was revealed that out of 5,108 church-related articles, 13.5% portrayed the church in a negative light, while 8.8% had a positive focus. The report highlighted the contributions of the National Council of Churches in Korea (NCCK) and Yeouido Full Gospel Church in promoting positive news.
Here are some of the positive news stories selected for this year:
The Global Elim Foundation has been actively supporting the settlement of foreigners in South Korea.
The NCCK organized a cultural heritage exploration focusing on Christian modern culture.
NCCK completed the “Building Houses of Love” project and held a worship service to express gratitude.
NCCK launched a campaign to achieve carbon neutrality.
A Korean church produced 47 female pastors, a historic milestone.
Yeouido Full Gospel Church provided accommodation for 3,300 participants of the Jambari event.
These projects were carried out through the leadership of Pastor Lee Young-hoon. The report also named him as the most positive Korean church figure to be recognized by the mainstream media in 2023.
Under the guidance of Pastor Lee, the social welfare corporation Good People, of which he serves as the chairman, donated 23,000 boxes of hope worth 2.3 billion won. Yeouido Full Gospel Church, where Pastor Lee serves as the senior pastor, distributed love kimchi to 1,250 disabled households. Through the Deacon Board and Elders’ Council of Yeouido Full Gospel Church, more than 3,000 bags of love rice were delivered to neighbors in need.
Yeouido Full Gospel Church stated, “The NCCK and Yeouido Full Gospel Church, as leading forces in the Korean church, have shown the dedication of the Korean church to serve society, even in a year with many negative church articles. This was meaningful in not letting go of the thread of hope for the Korean church.”
