In an effort to shed light on the cultural value of the cultural heritage of Shinan Temple, the county of Geumsan recently organized an academic conference at the Cheongsan Conference Hall. The conference was attended by over 100 experts in Buddhist culture and local residents.
The conference was jointly organized by the Buddhist Cultural Heritage Research Institute and Shinan Temple, with sponsorship from the Jogye Order of Korean Buddhism. The opening remarks were delivered by Director Hoam So of the Buddhist Cultural Heritage Research Institute.
The conference featured renowned experts in various fields who presented and engaged in discussions on a wide range of topics. Professor O Se-deok from Shin-kyungju University delivered a presentation on the architectural features and cultural value of Daegwangjeon, which was particularly noteworthy.
Another notable topic of discussion was the historical reevaluation of Amita Triad Buddha Statues, presented by Cultural Heritage Evaluation Committee member Choi Seon-il. Furthermore, Researcher Jeon Min-seok from the Korean Immigration History Museum presented an analysis of the construction period and architectural style of the Seven-story Stone Pagoda in Shinan.
Professor Ryu Ho-cheol from Anyang University discussed the utilization of cultural heritage in Shinan Temple. The comprehensive discussion was concluded by Honorary Professor Yoon Yong-hyuk from Kongju National University.
Situated in Jeonwon-myeon, Shinan Temple has a historical background dating back to the reign of King Jinheung of Silla in the 5th year (651 AD). It is said that King Gyeongsun, the last king of Silla, named the temple Shinan Temple (身安寺) to provide a serene atmosphere both physically and spiritually.
The county of Geumsan is actively promoting the elevation of national designated cultural heritage, such as Daegwangjeon and Amita Triad Buddha Statues. Additionally, they are striving to designate local cultural heritage in Chungcheongnam-do with exceptional cultural value, including the Seven-story Stone Pagoda.
County officials expressed their intention to utilize this academic conference as an opportunity to reevaluate the cultural value of Shinan Temple. They also emphasized the importance of future efforts in promoting the designation of national and local cultural heritage. Geumsan is committed to continuously unearthing and illuminating its rich history.
