In 2024, the National Central Museum in Seoul is hosting a special exhibition in celebration of the Year of the Dragon. The exhibition, titled “Finding the Dragon,” showcases a collection of dragon-related artworks from different periods.

The Painting Hall features large-scale dragon paintings set against a backdrop of a blue sea and layered clouds. These majestic dragons, alongside tiger paintings, were likely attached to palace gates or government office doors, serving as symbols of protection and good fortune.

In the Sculpture Hall, visitors can admire the intricate dragon designs found on celadon and white porcelain. One standout piece is the “Baekja Cheonghwa Gureum Yongmuni Hangari,” a royal jar adorned with a cobalt blue dragon painted with cobalt blue pigments, contrasting with the simplicity of other dragon depictions.

The National Central Museum has implemented QR codes next to each artwork, allowing visitors to access additional information. By scanning the QR codes, visitors can view detailed descriptions, unseen angles, comparative works, and even CT scans of certain pieces.
