Lee Jae-myung, the representative of the Democratic Party of Korea, delivered a powerful rebuttal in response to the refusal of a special prosecutor and the claims made by the ruling party. During the highest committee meeting held in the National Assembly on the 27th, Lee Jae-myung stated, “Those who refuse a special prosecutor are the culprits themselves. Isn’t this something we have heard many times before? It’s what the ruling party has been saying.”
Lee Jae-myung emphasized the need for the acceptance of the Special Prosecutor Act by urging the opposition party, the People Power Party, just a day before the plenary session vote on the “Kim Geon-hee Special Prosecutor Bill.” He pointed out that “over 70% of the Korean people support the Special Prosecutor Act and oppose the exercise of the veto power.”
Referring to the time when he was the governor of Gyeonggi Province and was accused of being the “core figure” in the alleged favoritism scandal surrounding the development in Daejang-dong in September 2021, Lee Jae-myung mentioned the fact that he was labeled as the one who refused a special prosecutor and claimed that the person refusing the investigation is the culprit.
Lee Jae-myung urged the ruling party, stating, “The Democratic Party will pass the Special Prosecutor Act in tomorrow’s plenary session. We also hope that the ruling party will actively cooperate in revealing the truth as desired by the people. We ask them to uphold the saying, ‘The people are always right,’ which President Yoon Seok-yeol has mentioned.”

Lee Jae-myung, the representative of the Democratic Party of Korea, reminded Han Dong-hoon, the emergency response committee chairman of the People Power Party, not to forget that the ruling party is the party in power. He stated, “The people expect the ruling party, which has been solely focused on political disputes, to take responsibility for governing the country. It is the duty of the opposition party to monitor and supervise the government, not for the ruling party to oppose and monitor the opposition.”
Referring to the inauguration speech where Han Dong-hoon mentioned that “the Democratic Party led by Lee Jae-myung should prevent the left-wing privileged forces and their collusion with extreme socialism from ruining the country,” Lee Jae-myung criticized the President’s perception and statements as detached from reality. He pointed out that the 13 visits made by the President this year, costing 53.8 billion KRW, have questionable effects in terms of attracting 5.4 billion USD in investment, as claimed by the Presidential Office. Lee Jae-myung questioned how long the Yoon Seok-yeol government will continue to focus solely on tax cuts for the wealthy and sound fiscal policies.
