Seoul’s Jamwon Hangang Park has undergone a stunning transformation this winter, becoming a captivating art space for visitors to enjoy. The park now features three large transparent air domes, each with a diameter of 12-15 meters, bringing life and vibrancy to the otherwise barren winter landscape.
The air domes are part of the “2023 Public Art Waterfront Gallery Project – Fresh Winter” exhibition, which aims to infuse the winter season with artistic charm. Not only do these domes provide a visually mesmerizing experience, but they also offer heating to ensure visitors can comfortably admire the artworks.
Within the air domes, visitors can explore three distinct sections: the Flower Dome, the Tree Dome, and the Garden Dome. The Flower Dome showcases a colossal balloon sculpture titled “Breathing Flower” by artist Choi Jeong-hwa, standing at an impressive height of 5 meters.
In the Tree Dome, visitors can encounter the installation artwork “Endless Tree” by artist Choi Sung-im. This unique piece consists of interconnected plastic mesh and thousands of balls, symbolizing the infinite connection between trees and the environment.
The Garden Dome features the artwork “Floating” by artist Park So-hee, which combines evergreen trees and dried flowers, presenting a captivating fusion of nature and interior design.
Outside the air domes, visitors can admire the installation artwork “Wave of Time” by the A.P.T team, depicting the flowing movement of water with its impressive length of 12 meters and height of 3.68 meters. The LED lighting illuminates the artwork, transforming it into a mesmerizing display of blue and white hues.
During the exhibition period, a cozy tea house named “Winter Connection, Tea House” operated by Small Batch Studio offers visitors the opportunity to enjoy various seasonal teas made from fresh ingredients, providing a healthy and refreshing experience.
The “2023 Public Art Waterfront Gallery Project – Fresh Winter” exhibition and the tea house will be open to the public until January 7, 2024, providing an extended opportunity for citizens and visitors to engage with art during the winter season. This initiative by Seoul City aims to enhance the cultural vitality of the city and offer a delightful experience of art to all.
Visit Jamwon Hangang Park and immerse yourself in the enchanting world of art amidst the winter landscape.
