The Korea Creative Content Agency (KOCCA) has successfully secured a budget of 6 trillion won for next year’s content industry support. Despite a 22% decrease compared to the previous year, the allocated budget of 6.124 trillion won remains significant, allowing for continued support and growth in the industry.
At the ‘2024 Korea Creative Content Agency Support Program Briefing,’ held at Seoul Dragon City Grand Ballroom, KOCCA expressed its commitment to concentrate the budget on supporting the content industry and facilitating more effective overseas expansion. The agency aims to enhance the international competitiveness of Korean content and provide comprehensive support for overseas ventures.
During the briefing, KOCCA revealed the budget allocation for different functions and genres within the content industry. The budget for overseas expansion saw a substantial increase of 72.3% compared to the previous year, focusing on establishing new overseas bases, operating Korean Wave-related promotional halls abroad, and organizing Korean Wave exhibitions. Additionally, the budget for pitching support and the establishment of a global pitching platform increased by 60.7% to attract foreign investors.
To enhance the global competitiveness of Korean content, KOCCA allocated budgets to various genres. Broadcasting-video content received a budget of 1.028 trillion won, games received 644 billion won, animation/characters received 352 billion won, and the music industry received 327 billion won. Furthermore, the budget for innovation technology convergence content was set at 230 billion won, and the budget for comics was allocated 159 billion won. These budget allocations aim to support the creation of intellectual property, foster the growth of technology convergence content, and strengthen the international competitiveness of Korean content.
During the briefing, KOCCA emphasized the importance of customer communication and plans to enhance its customer feedback system to better understand industry needs. The agency aims to improve operational and policy decision-making processes based on industry feedback.
