Artist Jung Hyun’s New Exhibition ‘Fragment’ at Namseoul Museum of Art

The Namseoul Museum of Art is hosting a solo exhibition titled ‘Fragment’ by renowned sculptor Jung Hyun. This innovative exhibition showcases Jung Hyun’s ability to breathe new life into discarded objects such as Styrofoam, transforming them into intricate works of art.

Exploring New Territories

During a three-month residency in Yeosu, Jung Hyun immersed himself in the act of walking without preconceptions, collecting stones with unique textures and individual stories along the way.

The Sculpture of Time

After categorizing the collected stones based on their location and the erosion caused by waves, Jung Hyun used 3D scanning technology to bring them to life. The resulting stone sculptures capture the essence of “fragmented time” and evoke the likeness of human portraits.

A Multifaceted Exhibition

The ‘Fragment’ exhibition presents over 30 artworks by Jung Hyun, including sculptures, prints, drawings, archives, and new creations. The exhibition is divided into five sections, tracing the artist’s artistic journey from the 1990s to the present.

An Artistic Exploration

The title ‘Fragment’ reflects Jung Hyun’s minimalist approach, which maximizes the unique characteristics of each medium with minimal intervention. Through his work, Jung Hyun infuses vitality into materials other than traditional sculptures, presenting his distinct artistic world.

Engaging with the Audience

Starting in January 2024, the exhibition will offer various workshops, including drawing and writing sessions, as well as opportunities for conversations with the artist. Additionally, a collaboration with the brand ‘Odooje’ will introduce specially designed crayons, allowing visitors to directly engage with the artworks.

A Journey through Time

The exhibition also features an archive room where visitors can explore Jung Hyun’s past activities and a unique tactile tool called ‘Touchable Sculpture’ that enables them to experience the various textures of stone sculptures firsthand.

Enhanced Exhibition Experience

By utilizing the Seoul Museum of Art exhibition app, visitors can access detailed explanations of the artworks provided by art historians, enhancing their immersive exhibition experience.

Free Admission and Dates

The ‘Fragment’ exhibition will run until March 17, 2024, and admission is free for all. For more information and updates, visitors can visit the official website of the Namseoul Museum of Art.
