South Korean Minister of Justice, Han Dong-hoon, Declines Position as Party Vice Chairman

In a recent statement, Han Dong-hoon, the Minister of Justice, announced that he will not be taking on the role of party vice chairman. The decision was made ahead of a meeting with members of the ruling party, the People Power Party.

Han Dong-hoon stated that if party members and supporters do not desire him to take on the position, he sees no reason to accept it. He also emphasized that there is no need for him to join the party if he is not chosen as vice chairman.

The announcement sparked a debate during the meeting, with some members advocating for Han’s appointment as vice chairman, while others expressed dissent. As a result, the People Power Party has not yet confirmed Han Dong-hoon as their vice chairman.

During a conversation with Dong-a Ilbo, Han Dong-hoon explained his reasoning, stating that from his perspective as a minister, taking on the role of vice chairman would place a significant burden on him, especially considering the party’s current challenges. He further indicated that his acceptance of the position would be contingent on strong support from within the party, as a precondition for the upcoming general elections.

Reports suggest that approximately two-thirds of the attendees at the meeting voiced support for Han Dong-hoon’s appointment as vice chairman.
