Seoul’s Nowon District is gearing up for its first-ever “Christmas Festival” at Hwarangdae Railroad Park, which will be transformed into a Santa Village. The festival, scheduled for December 24th, will feature a variety of performances, carols, and festive activities.
The main stage, called “Santa Banquet,” will host a series of choral and popera performances from 2 PM to 6 PM. The talented popera group “Atti Classic” will kick off the festivities with songs like “Song of Celebration” and “Blessings for Christmas” at 2 PM. Following that, the children’s choir team “Dream Tree” will take the stage at 3 PM, followed by a performance by the Nowon District Music Teachers’ Choir, known as “Piedea,” at 4 PM. At 5 PM, the popera quartet “Il Volare” will enchant the audience with their rendition of carols, followed by a performance from the “Nowon Soloist Ensemble.”
The tree lighting ceremony will commence at 5:20 PM, where the iconic “Avatar Tree” at Hwarangdae Railroad Park will transform into a magnificent Christmas tree. The “Media Train” will display Christmas-themed videos to enhance the festive ambiance of the event.
Around the train cafe, visitors can enjoy the enchanting experience of “Snowy Christmas.” Snow will be sprayed for 10 minutes at 12:30 PM, 1:30 PM, 5:20 PM, and 5:50 PM. Additionally, the event will feature the “Santa Market,” offering Christmas-themed goods, handmade crafts, and air fresheners. Visitors can also indulge in a variety of Christmas desserts at the “Rudolph’s Shelter.” The “Rudolph Restaurant” near the entrance of the park will serve delicious treats such as tteokbokki (spicy rice cakes), fish cakes, and mini bungeoppang (fish-shaped pastries).
Visitors can take a photo with Santa and post it on social media to receive a Santa hat as a special gift. The festival will run from 12 PM to 6 PM, providing a healing and joyful experience for families.
Nowon District Mayor Oh Seung-rok expressed his hope that the transformed Hwarangdae Railroad Park into Santa Village would provide a healing time for families and serve as a Christmas gift for everyone who worked hard throughout the year.
