A new imaginative space has been officially opened in Ulsan’s Ganjeolgot, featuring the world’s largest junk art exhibition. The exhibition showcases an impressive 18m sculpture, making it a remarkable display of creativity and artistry.

Immersive Experience of Art and Culture

The opening ceremony, organized by the Seosaeng-myeon Residents’ Council, was a vibrant celebration filled with various performances and interactive activities. Attendees were treated to busking performances, traditional percussion shows, live singer performances, balloon art, and even had the opportunity to have their photos taken for free with Polaroid cameras. The event was a true feast for the senses.

Exploring Themes and Creativity

The Ganjeolgot Imaginary Space showcases a total of 123 junk art pieces, each related to one of five captivating themes. The “Sports Park” theme pays tribute to the Haedoji Wrestling Team and Ulsan Hyundai Football Club, while the “Fantasy Market” introduces visitors to the local specialties of Seosaeng pears and Dolmi Station. The “Amusement Park” features captivating rock formations and animal caricatures, and the “Festival” theme brings to life the vibrant art and culture of the region. Finally, the “East Sea” theme symbolizes the waves and female divers of Haeparang-gil and Pyeongdong Village.

Redefined Image of Ganjeolgot

The Ganjeolgot Imaginary Space aims to redefine the perception of Ganjeolgot as a place where the sun shines every day of the year. By incorporating eco-friendly junk art, the exhibition emphasizes the importance of solar energy in this picturesque location. Ulsan City Government hopes that Ganjeolgot will become a nationally recognized tourist attraction and a symbol representing the vibrant city of Ulsan.
