Seoul Winta 2023: A Spectacular Winter Downtown Festival Illuminated by Light

Seoul Winta 2023, a winter downtown festival, kicked off with a dazzling opening ceremony. Organized by the Seoul Metropolitan Government, Seoul Winta brings together 10 festivals and events held at 7 iconic locations in Seoul, creating a massive winter festival that will run for 38 days, from the 15th of this month until January 21st of next year.

A Vibrant Winter Night Illuminated by Dazzling Lights

Under the slogan “Unseen Light Colors Seoul,” Seoul Winta transforms winter nights into a magnificent spectacle of light through media art and light exhibitions. At Seoul Light Gwanghwamun, visitors can experience the fusion of tradition and modernity, art and technology, urban and natural landscapes through media facades, landscape lighting, and light sculptures. Seoul Light Chorong Festival installs light sculptures in Gwanghwamun Square, Sejong-ro Park, Cheonggyecheon Stream, and Seoul Plaza. In particular, to welcome the “Year of the Dragon” in 2024, Gwanghwamun Square showcases a 10-meter-long large blue dragon made of traditional Korean paper, and Cheonggyecheon Stream presents a sculpture of a soaring dragon. A 300-meter-long “White Dragon” that visualizes the soaring dragon will be exhibited at Cheonggyecheon Stream, creating a breathtaking spectacle. Additionally, Seoul Light DDP uses the theme of “Coexistence of Nature and Human Technology” to create a media art representation of the grandeur of nature using the giant silver panels of the DDP building as a canvas.
