Pianist Kim Soo-yeon will be taking the stage for her final performance as the resident musician of the 2023 Geumho Art Hall. The performance, titled “Collage Party,” will be held on December 7th at the Geumho Art Hall in Seoul.
Collage, an art technique popularized by Picasso in the early 20th century, involves combining small pieces to create new images. Kim Soo-yeon will be applying the concept of collage to music by performing piano quintets by Shostakovich and Dvorak. The performance, accompanied by the Daniel Quartet, promises to be a vibrant and multidimensional musical experience.
Shostakovich’s Piano Quintet in G minor, Op.57, is renowned for its intense impression and subtle humor. On the other hand, Dvorak’s Piano Quintet in A major, Op.81, combines warm lyricism with rich melodies. Through her interpretation, Kim Soo-yeon aims to highlight the unique characteristics of each composition while revealing their shared qualities.
Kim Soo-yeon expressed her hopes that this performance will be an energetic and uplifting experience. As the resident musician at Geumho Art Hall, she has prepared a program that will make her final stage even more enriching. This performance marks the pinnacle of her journey as a resident musician, following her historic victory at the 2021 Montreal International Competition.
Selected as the resident musician for 2023 at Geumho Art Hall, Kim Soo-yeon’s residency theme is “Harmony: Art and Music.” Through a series of five performances until December, she aims to captivate the audience with the fusion of art and music. The Geumho Cultural Foundation, by providing a platform for talented musicians like Kim Soo-yeon, seeks to contribute to Seoul’s vibrant cultural scene.
