The 2023 Art Seoul Special Exhibition, titled “The Time of Sculpture: Resonance,” will be held from this month until February next year. The exhibition aims to combine Seoul’s major landmarks with visual arts, establishing Seoul as an international art city. The exhibition will take place at various locations around the Sejong Cultural Center, offering visitors the opportunity to explore the history of Korean sculpture and reflect on the lives and artistic creations of eight influential sculptors.
The Art Seoul Special Exhibition is part of the ongoing Art Seoul project, which started with the “Touching the Ground” exhibition at Songhyun Park in September. The relay exhibition will continue at the Sejong Cultural Center in November and conclude at Nodeul Island in December, showcasing a wide range of works that encompass various generations and expand the realm of contemporary sculpture.
The exhibition will feature representative works by renowned sculptors such as Kim Jeong-suk, Song Young-soo, Choi Man-rin, Park Byung-wook, Kim In-gyeom, Park Jeong-heum, Park Il-soon, and Kim Jeong-hee. Visitors will have the opportunity to see iconic pieces such as “Yeoinsang,” “Bisang,” “Hyo,” “Totem,” “Tae (胎) 79-18,” “0 01-2,” “Manwol (Full Moon),” “Chuil (Autumn Day),” “Space-Less,” “Muksi Space,” “Untitled (2014),” “Spirit of Spring,” and “Space 2022-idea.”
The Art Seoul project, aimed at establishing Seoul as a global sculpture city, will continue its development. The city plans to discover more diverse exhibition venues and establish a system that allows more artists to participate freely, fostering the continuous growth and development of Sculpture City Seoul.
Following the exhibition at the Sejong Cultural Center, the “Time of Sculpture: Flow” exhibition will be held at Nodeul Island next month. This exhibition will showcase works that lead the future of sculpture, encompassing various generations and expanding the boundaries of contemporary sculpture.
Seoul’s Cultural Affairs Director, Choi Kyung-joo, expressed expectations that the Art Seoul Special Exhibition will establish Seoul as a global sculpture city. The city aims to solidify the brand of “Sculpture City Seoul” by continuously developing and promoting the city’s artistic identity.
