The US Department of Defense has verified a total of 58 attacks on American military personnel by Iranian proxies in Syria and Iraq, according to a report from Fox News. Out of these incidents, 27 took place in Iraq, while the remaining 31 occurred in Syria.
Recent data indicates that attacks on US troops stationed in Syria have not shown any signs of decreasing. Since Sunday, there have been 7 reported attacks, posing a serious threat to the safety and security of American forces in the region.
In response to questions about the Department of Defense’s approach to these attacks, Pentagon spokesperson Sabrina Singh emphasized that the US will not wait for US service members to be killed before taking stronger action against Iranian proxies. The Department of Defense is already engaged in responding to these attacks and will continue to do so at the appropriate time and place.
The United States maintains the right to respond to such threats and is closely monitoring the activities of Iranian proxies in Syria and Iraq. The escalating tensions in the Middle East and the destabilizing actions of these proxies are causing significant concerns for the US.
In a separate incident, the USS Thomas Hudner, an Arleigh Burke-class destroyer, successfully intercepted a drone in the Red Sea. Although the drone was not specifically targeting the Hudner, its trajectory posed a potential threat to the vessel.
Pentagon spokesperson Singh confirmed that the captain of the USS Thomas Hudner made the decision to engage and shoot down the drone as an act of self-defense. The US maintains the right to respond to such threats and will take appropriate measures to protect personnel and assets.
The US actively monitors the activities of Iranian-backed militias and is considering various options to address the ongoing threats. Close coordination with regional allies is crucial in resolving the issue of Iranian proxies and maintaining stability in the Middle East.
The United States is committed to protecting its military, ensuring safety, and safeguarding national interests in the region. As the situation continues to evolve, the US will assess progress and take necessary measures to deter future attacks.
The continuous attacks on US forces by Iranian proxies highlight the unstable nature of the region and the ongoing need for heightened vigilance, strategic responses, and the protection of American troops.
